Charles Marius Barbeau, CC FRSC (March 5, 1883 – February 27, 1969), also known as C. Marius Barbeau, or more commonly simply Marius Barbeau, was a Canadian ethnographer and folklorist who is today considered a founder of Canadian anthropology.
19 de may. de 2008 · Marius Barbeau was a pioneering anthropologist and the founder of professional folklore studies in Canada. He worked at the National Museum (now the Canadian Museum of History) from 1911 until the late 1960s, collecting a vast archive of thousands of traditional songs, texts and artifacts — especially of French Canadian and Aboriginal peoples.
His writings total over 1,000 books and articles, and he has left 12 linear metres of manuscripts and more than 30 linear metres of research notes. A self-proclaimed pioneer in the fields of anthropology and folk culture, Barbeau's work won international acclaim.
