The Shoqan Walikhanov spring, named in Walikhanov’s honor, is in the Altyn-Emel National Park. It is located in the Kerbulak district of Almaty region, on the road to the singing Dunes, among the tract at the foot of the Maly Kalkan Mountains .
Shoqan Shynghysuly Walikhanov (Template:Lang-kz; Template:Lang-ru), given name Muhammed Qanapiya (Template:Lang-kz) (November 1835 – April 10, 1865) was a Kazakh scholar, ethnographer, historian and participant in The Great Game. He is regarded as the father of modern Kazakh historiography and ethnography.

Shoqan Walikhanov is the 96th most popular historian (down from 86th in 2019), the 15th most popular biography from Kazakhstan (down from 12th in 2019) and the most popular Kazakhstani Historian. Shoqan Walikhanov is most famous for his work on the development of the Soviet space program.
