Alexander III (born March 10 [February 26, Old Style], 1845, St. Petersburg, Russia—died November 1 [October 20, Old Style], 1894, Livadiya, Crimea) was the emperor of Russia from 1881 to 1894, an opponent of representative government, and a supporter of Russian nationalism.
Alexander II was the emperor of Russia (1855–81). His liberal education and distress at the outcome of the Crimean War, which had demonstrated Russia’s backwardness, inspired him toward a great program of domestic reforms, the most important being the emancipation (1861) of the serfs.
Nicholas II (Nikolai Alexandrovich Romanov; [d] 18 May [ O.S. 6 May] 1868 – 17 July 1918) or Nikolai II was the last reigning Emperor of Russia, King of Congress Poland, and Grand Duke of Finland from 1 November 1894 until his abdication on 15 March 1917.
