Dallas (/ ˈ d æ l ə s /) is a city in the U.S. state of Texas and the most populous city in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, the most populous metropolitan area in Texas and the fourth-most populous metropolitan area in the United States at 7.5 million people.
Dallas, city in north-central Texas, the third most populous in the state and the metropolis of the sprawling Dallas–Fort Worth urban area, known as the Metroplex. Present-day Dallas remained under Spanish rule until 1821, when Mexico declared independence from Spain, and the area became part of the Mexican state of Coahuila y Tejas. The Republic of Texas broke off from Mexico in 1836 and remained an independent country for nearly 10 years.
