Zimmer wrote several soundtracks of music for the film, including for its sequel, and heavily utilized choir—specifically female voices—percussion, and strings in the score's instrumentation, as well as acoustic and wind instruments.
Hans Zimmer was the composer of this particular track. Most of the music used in this piece, as well as the title, comes from Gordon's final monologue when he describes Batman as, "a silent guardian, a watchful protector, a dark knight"; other parts of the track are used in the end credits.
