Hervey de Keith (died c. 1185) was a Scoto-Norman adventurer and nobleman and first recorded Marischal of Scotland . Life. Keith took his name from the Barony of Keith, in East Lothian, which he held the north eastern part; the south western part was held by Simon Fraser.

Ancestors and descendants. Sir Robert Keith was the great-great-great-grandson of Hervey de Keith, the first Marischal of Scotland. Keith's grandson and successor as Marischal, also named Robert Keith, was killed during the Battle of Neville's Cross in 1346.

Hervey de Keith was Great Marischal of Scotland in the reign of William the Lion. He witnessed several charters between 1189 and 1195, and died before 1196 . He was succeeded by his grandson, Sir Philip Keith, Great Marischal of Scotland. He died before 1219, and was succeeded by his son, Sir Hervey.
