Hessian (German: Hessisch) is a West Central German group of dialects of the German language in the central German state of Hesse. The dialect most similar to Hessian is Palatinate German (German: Pfälzisch ) of the Rhine Franconian sub-family.

Hessian is a group of German dialects, characterized as a Central German dialect according to its share in the High German sound shift and spoken mainly in Hesse, but also in some areas in Franconia, Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia.

Germans hear it on the radio and TV all the time, out of the mouths of comedians such as Bodo Bach and Maddin Schneider, as well as comedic duos Badesalz and Mundstuhl.
