James Hamilton, 2nd Marquess of Hamilton and 4th Earl of Arran KG PC (1589 – 2 March 1625), styled Lord Aven from 1599 to 1604, was a Scottish politician. He was the son of John Hamilton, 1st Marquess of Hamilton and Margaret Lyon .

Biography. James (Hamilton) Hamilton Second Marquess of Hamilton is a member of Clan Hamilton. James Hamilton, 2nd Marquess of Hamilton He was styled as Lord Aven between 1599 and 1604. He succeeded to the title of 2nd Marquess of Hamilton [S., 1599] on 6 April 1604. He was created 1st Lord Aberbrothwick [Scotland] on 5 May 1608.

James Hamilton, 3rd marquess and 1st duke of Hamilton (born June 19, 1606—died March 9, 1649, Preston, Lancashire, Eng.) was a Scottish Royalist whose vacillating, ineffectual leadership did great damage to King Charles I’s cause during the English Civil Wars between the Royalists and the Parliamentarians.
James Hamilton, the Second Marquis of Hamilton filled a number of offices in the service of James I, including that of Lord High Commissioner to the Scottish Parliament. The sitter is depicted holding his hat and the white staff of the Lord Steward of the Household, wearing the ribbon of the Garter.
