László Lajtha (1892-1963) nació en Budapest el 30 de junio de 1892 Estudió en la Academia de Música de Budapest a partir de 1908, como alumno de composición de Viktor Herzfeld y de Zoltán Kodaly logrando el diploma de compositor. Entre sus profesores también se encontraba Béla Bartók.
Mit seinen 9 Sinfonien (entstanden zwischen 1936 und 1961) und einigen anderen Werken sinfonischen Charakters gilt Lajtha als erster bedeutender ungarischer Sinfoniker. Er schrieb außerdem unter anderem die komische Oper Le chapeau bleu (1948–50), ein Violinkonzert (1931) sowie 10 Streichquartette.
