Madison Square Garden, colloquially known as the Garden or by its initials MSG, is a multi-purpose indoor arena in New York City. It is located in Midtown Manhattan between Seventh and Eighth Avenues from 31st to 33rd Street above Pennsylvania Station.
Madison Square is probably best known around the world for providing the name of a sports arena called Madison Square Garden. The original arena and its successor were located just northeast of the park for 47 years, until 1925. The current Madison Square Garden, the fourth such building, is not in the area.

The Garden on Madison Square Park was demolished in 1926, and over the course of the next two years, the New York Life Insurance Building was built – and still stands today, as the beautifully gothic building adorned with a golden roof that can still be seen from Madison Square Park.
