Neuwied ( German: [nɔʏˈviːt] ⓘ) is a town in the north of the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, capital of the District of Neuwied. Neuwied lies on the east bank of the Rhine, 12 km northwest of Koblenz, on the railway from Frankfurt am Main to Cologne.
Neuwied ist eine große kreisangehörige Stadt und Sitz der Kreisverwaltung des Landkreises Neuwied im Norden des Landes Rheinland-Pfalz. Sie liegt am Südrand des Landkreises am rechten Rheinufer, etwa zehn Kilometer nordwestlich von Koblenz, an der Mündung des im Westerwald entspringenden Flusses Wied.

Wied-Neuwied was a German statelet in northeastern Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, located northeast of the Rhine River flanking the northern side of the city of Neuwied. Wied-Neuwied emerged from the partitioning of Wied. Its status was elevated from county to principality in 1784. It was mediatised to Nassau and Prussia in 1806.
