Das Wappen Uruguays wurde erstmals durch Gesetz am 19. März 1829 festgelegt und ist seit 1908 offiziell. Es wurde vom Stadtwappen von Montevideo (18. Jahrhundert) abgeleitet. Das Wappen besteht aus einem Oval, das in vier gleich große Felder eingeteilt ist und von einer goldenen Sonne gekrönt ist.

The coat of arms of Uruguay or Uruguayan shield ( Spanish: Escudo de Armas del Estado) was first adopted by law on March 19, 1829, and later on had some minor modification in 1906 and 1908.
