Douglas DC-6 de Sabena (1964) Sabena inició su primera ruta transatlántica a la ciudad de Nueva York el 4 de junio de 1946, inicialmente utilizando aviones de pasajeros Douglas DC-4 sin presurizar que fueron ampliados y luego reemplazados por Douglas DC-6. Sabena was the first airline to introduce transatlantic schedules from the north of England, when one of its DC-6Bs inaugurated the Brussels- Manchester - New York route on 28 October 1953. The Convair 240 was introduced in 1949 to partially replace the DC-3s that until then had flown most European services.

Sabena technics is present across 15 sites worldwide and its head office is based in Paris. The group also provides its customers with line maintenance operations at many other airports. This deployment is part of a key principle for the company, service proximity. At Brussels Airport, Sabena technics employs a workforce of more than 400 person.
17 de abr. de 2020 · Sabena would then collapse a month later on the 7th of November 2001. After this event, a committee formed by the Belgian government investigated why the airline went bankrupt. They found: Swissair failed to come through with the funding that it promised. Much of the criticism lies at the feet of Mario Corti, the CEO of Swissair at the time.
