Montpelier (/ m ɒ n t ˈ p iː l j ər / mont-PEEL-yər) is the capital of the U.S. state of Vermont and the county seat of Washington County. The site of Vermont's state government, it is the least populated state capital in the United States.
Vermont was one of two states with fewer people than the District of Columbia; Wyoming was the other. The center of population of Vermont is located in Washington County, in the town of Warren. The influx of domestic migrants in the 1960s to 1980s brought outlooks different than those of the native-born population.
