Academy Award-winning actor Jared Leto was cast to portray the Joker in the 2016 film Suicide Squad, directed by David Ayer. Leto described his role as "nearly Shakespearean " and a "beautiful disaster of a character;" about portraying the villain, he stated, "I took a pretty deep dive.
He has since starred in Suicide Squad (2016), Blade Runner 2049 (2017), The Little Things (2021), and House of Gucci (2021), the latter two of which earned him nominations for a Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild Award.
