Santorini (Greek: Σαντορίνη, romanized: Santoríni, pronounced [sa(n)doˈrini]), officially Thira (Greek: Θήρα, romanized: Thíra, pronounced) and Classical Greek Thera (/ ˈ θ ɪər ə /), is an island in the southern Aegean Sea, about 200 km (120 mi) southeast from the Greek mainland.
Oia is a scenic village on the north west edge of the Santorini island within the Cyclades. It extends for almost two kilometres ( 1 + 1 ⁄ 4 mi) along the northern edge of the caldera that forms the island of Santorini, at a height of between 70 and 100 metres (230 and 330 ft) above sea level .
Santorini is best known for its caldera views, classic Cycladic architecture (whitewashed cubed houses with blue shutters and little churches with domed roofs), luxury hotels and villas and romantic sunsets.
