Braintree is a town in Essex, England. The principal settlement of Braintree District, it is located 10 miles (16 km) northeast of Chelmsford, 35 miles (56 km) northwest of Southend-on-Sea, and 15 miles (24 km) west of Colchester.

Braintree is a constituency in Essex represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2015 by James Cleverly, a member of the Conservative Party. Cleverly is a former Chairman of the Conservative Party and currently the Secretary of State for the Home Department.
Emigration and Change. As religious intolerance and financial hardship took its toll, many people emigrated from Essex to the New World, including a group from Braintree who sailed on ‘The Lyon’ in 1632 and founded Braintree, Massachusetts and Hartford, Connecticut.
