Innere Stadt is the central district of Vienna. It borders Leopoldstadt in the northeast, Landstraße in the east, Wieden and Mariahilf in the south, Neubau and Josefstadt in the west, and Alsergrund in the north.

Vienna, First District: The "Innere Stadt", Part I. Vienna′s first district is called " Innere Stadt ", which means " Inner City " and is quite self-explanatory. It is not only the most central of all districts and the legislative focal point of Vienna, it is also the historic core of the city.

Innere Stadt is the inner-most district of Vienna. Its historic centre dates back to Roman ages and has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. It is encircled by the Ring Road (Ringstraße), a grand boulevard constructed along the old city walls, which were torn down starting in 1858.
