Jean Lannes (Lectoure, Gers, 10 de abril de 1769-Ebersdorf, 31 de mayo de 1809), duque de Montebello, mariscal de Francia y príncipe de Siewierz. Fue uno de los más brillantes militares de Napoleón Bonaparte, de quien fue además amigo personal, hasta el punto de tutearle amistosamente.
Jean Lannes, 1st Duke of Montebello, Prince of Siewierz (10 April 1769 – 31 May 1809), was a French military commander and a Marshal of the Empire who served during both the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars.
A mere volunteer who became a soldier of extraordinary bravery and sang-froid, literally covered in scars, Lannes was a key figure in Napoleon’s military success. Very much down-to-earth (in Italy when offered the Pope’s hand to kiss, he firmly shook it).
Known as one of the few true friends to Napoleon, Jean Lannes began his military career by joining the National Guard in 1792. Elected as a sous-lieutenant in the 2nd Battalion of Volunteers of Gers, he first saw action in 1793 against Spain in the Pyrenees.
Jean Lannes, 1er duc de Montebello, né le 10 avril 1769 à Lectoure ( Occitanie) et mort le 31 mai 1809 sur l'île de Lobau, en Autriche, à la suite des blessures reçues à la bataille d'Essling, est un général français de la Révolution et de l'Empire, élevé à la dignité de maréchal d'Empire en 1804 et inhumé au Panthéon en 1810.
Jean Lannes, bound out as an apprentice dyer, ran away to join the army of the Revolution. Always eager for action and leading from the front, he was much wounded and much promoted. Napoleon revered him.
