At Mayfield School in Torquay we have 180 pupils with severe and profound learning difficulties arranged in 19 classes from foundation through to Key Stage 4. Mayfield School is a school for pupils from EYFS through to KS4 with Severe, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties. We aim to provide a learning environment that meets the needs of the diverse population of children and young people for whom we are responsible.

The children who attend Mayfield Chestnut Centre exhibit a wide range of both social, emotional and mental health and educational needs, which by their nature can impinge upon their progress. As a school we work on trauma informed principles, the school provides a flexible curriculum that addresses all areas of the individual student’s needs.
Leadership Profile. My name is Stuart Heron and I have had the honour of being the Headteacher of Mayfield School since 2020. I have had a number of different Senior Leadership roles, since 2013, in various schools and education settings located in Torbay and Devon and I am very proud to lead our amazing SEND school.

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed, these can be arranged by contacting the school office on 01803 328375. However, the school is unable to make a decision as to whether a child can be admitted or not.
