Medieval servants were an essential part of the household, responsible for maintaining the smooth functioning of the noble family’s daily life. The duties assigned to medieval servants varied depending on their rank, skills, and the size of the household.

HOUSEHOLD In all the medieval monarchies of western Europe the general system of government sprang from, and centred in, the royal household. The sovereign's domestics were his officers of state, and the leading dignitaries of the palace were the principal administrators of the kingdom.
The Royal Household in The Middle Ages was meant to be those persons appointed by a King or Queen to perform specific duties (often involving direct contact with their Sovereign). These were initially Stewards, Master Butlers, Master Chamberlain's, Treasurer, Constable and Chancellor.
