Mirow Palace. Construction of Schloss Mirow began in 1707 under the direction of the Pomeranian architect Joachim Borchmann taking five years to complete. The Schloss initially served as the residence of the widowed third wife of Duke Adolf Friedrich II, the Dowager Duchess Emilie and her young son Duke Carl.
Mirow is the birthplace of Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, Queen consort of George III of the United Kingdom. The baroque palace, under construction from 1749 to 1760, was designed by Christoph Julius Löwe. It is notable for a ballroom with stucco decoration, and for the Red Salon lined with silk Chinese-style wallpaper.

The present palace was built under Adolf Friedrich III according to plans by Christoph Julius Löwe between 1749 and 1752 as a widow's residence for his stepmother Elisabeth-Albertine. The two-story, plastered half-timbered building with three-story middle and side risalites borrows its spatial structure and design from French models and was provided with a sumptuous interior.

Mirow Castle is one of the oldest fortresses in Polish Jura, it belongs to the famous Eagles Nests Trail. Although this medieval fortress is in ruins today, it is definitely worth visiting. Especially if you decide to visit nearby Bobolice Castle, Mirow is just stone’s throw away.
