Early history and pall-mall field. Pall Mall was constructed in 1661, replacing an earlier highway slightly to the south that ran from the Haymarket (approximately where Warwick House Street is now) to the royal residence, St James's Palace.
Hace 2 días · Pall Mall. The street now known as Pall Mall was laid out in its present position in 1661, on the site of the old pall mall alley (see page 24). It replaced the ancient highway which until then had led from Charing Cross to St. James's Palace along a line roughly parallel with, but south of, the present street (fig. 58).
It differed from trucco especially in its more extreme length of playing area, suggesting a closer relationship to golf than other derivatives of ground billiards . Pall-mall was popular in Italy, France and Scotland, and spread to England and other parts of Western Europe in the 16th century.

The term "Mall" became the accepted name in the 1900s. In 1902, the McMillan plan officially described it as "The National Mall." Why is this space called a "Mall"? These mallets and ball were used to play pall mall in England during the late 1700s.
