20 de jul. de 1998 · Sir Richard Wallace, Baronet (born June 21, 1818, London, Eng.—died July 20, 1890, Paris, France) was a British art collector and philanthropist whose name is perpetuated by the famous art collection, the Wallace Collection ( q.v. ), at Hertford House, London.

On 24 November 1871, six months after the marriage, Wallace was created a baronet, "of Hertford House, London", for his philanthropy to English ex-patriots during the Siege of Paris and the couple moved to England, where Amélie, by then Lady Wallace, lived from 1872 until her death in 1897.
Was it simple altruism? Could it be guilt over the vast wealth he inherited? As an illegitimate child, did Richard Wallace seek legitimacy through his philanthropy? Was he trying to atone for the sins of his miserly father?
