Plauen (en sorabo: Plawno; en checo: Plavno) es una ciudad de Sajonia, al este de Alemania. Está situada cerca de la frontera de Baviera y la República Checa. No debe confundirse con Plauen, también en Sajonia, un antiguo pueblo, ahora ciudad del distrito de Dresde .
Die Große Kreisstadt Plauen ( obersorbisch Plawno, [2] tschechisch Plavno [3]) ist ein Oberzentrum im Südwesten des Freistaates Sachsen und die Kreisstadt des Vogtlandkreises. Plauen was founded by Polabian Slavs in the 12th century as "Plawe" and was passed to the Kingdom of Bohemia in 1327.
