The Le Mans 24 Hours has become a flat-out sprint – a process that started with the arrival of arguably the greatest Le Mans racer ever, the Porsche 956.Here was a car that could be driven full pelt — fuel allocation allowing — day and night. And that was night and day compared with what had come before.
Porsche 956. Porsche conceived the 956 with the so-called ground effect for the Group C. It was sucked to the track surface by a specially shaped under-floor, increasing cornering speeds considerably. The debut at Le Mans in 1982 yielded a triple victory. This car was used as a test mule and played a role in the development of the TAG Turbo engine.
1 de feb. de 2018 · Under the direction of Norbert Singer, race engineers begin using the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) for the first time in the 956. Another new addition is the development of the five-speed gearbox. With its progressive injection system and 2.6-litre turbo engine, the 956 achieves a power output of 620 hp.
