En angiospermas, Solanum L. (Solanaceae) es uno de los diez géneros más diversos (Frodin 2004). Incluye 1,234 especies (Solanaceae Source 2019) y por esta razón lo han calificado como género gigante (Weese & Bohs 2007), hiperdiverso o megadiverso (Echeverría-Londoño et al. 2020).
Las solanáceas ( Solanaceae Juss.) son una familia de plantas herbáceas con las hojas alternas, simples y sin estípulas pertenecientes al orden Solanales, de las dicotiledóneas. 1 Comprende aproximadamente 98 géneros y unas 2700 especies, 2 con una gran diversidad de hábito, morfología y ecología.
Solanum. Sitio de estudio: México. Métodos: Se revisaron los ejemplares de Solanum depositados en 15 herbarios y 10 colecciones digitales. Los nombres se validaron en Tropicos, The Plant List, International Plant Names Index y Solanaceae Source.
