After receiving these honours Uhtred dismissed his wife, Ecgfrida, and married Sige, daughter of Styr, son of Ulf. Styr was a rich citizen of York. It appears that Uhtred was trying to make political allies amongst the Danes in Deira.
24 de oct. de 2022 · Ida’s grandson Æthelfrith gave the fortress to his wife Bebba. Protected settlements such as this were known as burghs and were designed to provide a safe haven for communities under attack. They became increasingly popular as Viking raids increased in later centuries.
Lord Uhtred and his first wife had Uhtred, but she sadly died shortly after giving birth to him. He remarried to a Mercian noblewoman, Lady Æthelgifu, that union produced a son; Osbert (later known as Uhtred) in 857. Osbert's mother also sadly died while giving birth to him.

Acknowledging his weak position and to bind the Northumbrian Ealdorman closer to the crown, Æthelred gave his daughter in marriage to Uhtred in 1015, enhancing his status by making him a member of the royal family and son-in-law to the king.
14 de abr. de 2023 · According to at least one source, Ida’s grandson, Æthelfrith, gave the fortress to his wife, Bebba – from whom it took the name Bebbanburh (or Bebbanburg). His son, Oswald, ruled a unified kingdom of Northumbria, where he promoted Christianity and gave the nearby island of Lindisfarne to the monk Saint Aidan.
