After the album’s release, Kirk Thompson left the band to pursue a solo career as a producer. His first project as writer, arranger, and producer, the self-titled (and only) album by new Hawaii band Lemuria, was released in 1979. Kalapana continued as a six-piece with the 1979 album Northbound.

They were put together by a music manager in ’73 who auditioned local musicians and ended up with Mackey Feary, Malani Bilyeu, DJ Pratt, & Kirk Thompson.
In 1973, Kalapana was born from the talent of David John (DJ) Pratt, Carl James Malani Bilyeu, Bryant Mackey Feary, and Kirk Thompson.
