Lucy Mercer Rutherfurd (née Lucy Page Mercer; April 26, 1891 – July 31, 1948) was an American woman who sustained a long affair with US president Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Lucy Page Mercer Rutherfurd was born April 26, 1891, in Washington, DC to a prominent Maryland Catholic family. She was educated in private schools, but because her family had very little money she had to go to work. In 1914, she became social secretary to Eleanor Roosevelt.

20 de abr. de 2008 · In 1913, on the advice of Anna Roosevelt Cowles, a family elder known as Aunty Bye, Eleanor Roosevelt hired Lucy Mercer, seven years younger, to be her social secretary.
Lucy was born into a prominent family and attended private schools. However, the family’s prominence didn’t provide enough money to maintain the lifestyle, and Lucy had to begin working. Lucy became Eleanor’s social secretary in 1914, jump starting her relationship with the future president.
