Mills College at Northeastern University in Oakland, California is part of Northeastern University's global university system. Mills College was founded as the Young Ladies Seminary in 1852 in Benicia, California; it was relocated to Oakland in 1871 and became the first women's college west of the Rockies.
The eucalyptus leaf eventually became a symbol of Mills College. The Mills College cultural heritage plan contains case studies that use knowledge of the college’s historic cultural values to test development patterns in two key areas of the campus.
