He was succeeded by his eldest son, the fifteenth Lord. He was a prominent soldier and distinguished himself during the Second World War. As of 2017 the titles are held by his grandson, the sixteenth Lord, who succeeded in 1994. The Conservative politician Sir Hugh Fraser was the younger son of the fourteenth Lord.
9 de jul. de 2023 · Simon Fraser, the Fifteenth Lord Lovat, chief of Clan Fraser, was born on 9 July 1911 at Beaufort Castle in Inverness. Fraser was a World War Two hero who helped to develop the commandos and was a participant in the D-Day landings, being famously piped ashore by his personal piper Bill Millin, in defiance of War Office regulations.
It has also played a considerable role in most major political turmoils. "Fraser" remains the most prominent family name within the Inverness area. The Clan's current chief is Simon Fraser, the 16th Lord Lovat, and 25th Chief of Clan Fraser.
The son of its founder, the fifteenth Lord Lovat, served in the Scots Guards and The Lovat Scouts, and was best known as an outstanding Commando Leader in the 2nd World War in which he won D.S.O and M.C.
Although the exact date of creation is uncertain, some time between 1456 and 1464, Hugh Fraser was raised to the peerage as Lord Lovat or Lord Fraser of Lovat. The style of life kept up by the chiefs of the Lovat Frasers, and their liberal hospitality, may be understood from the abundance shown in the household expenditure of Simon, sixth Lord Lovat. The weekly consumption included seven bolts of malt, seven bolls of meal, and one of flour.
