William Hogarth FRSA (/ ˈ h oʊ ɡ ɑːr θ /; 10 November 1697 – 26 October 1764) was an English painter, engraver, pictorial satirist, social critic, editorial cartoonist and occasional writer on art.
Best remembered for his intricate and satirical prints, Hogarth was a varied and prolific artist who mastered a range of styles and genres ranging from conversation pieces and realistic portraiture to grotesque caricature. He was the most significant artist of his generation and the first English-born artist to attract attention abroad.

William Hogarth (; 10 November 1697 – 26 October 1764) was an English painter, engraver, pictorial satirist, social critic, editorial cartoonist and occasional writer on art.
He is credited with being the first artist in Europe to create art that represented and expressed a national identity. Born in London, Hogarth was apprenticed to a silver engraver for seven years, moving on to creating his own satirical prints.
