Augustus Henry Julian Le Plongeon (4 May 1825 – 13 December 1908) was a British-American archeologist and photographer who studied the pre-Columbian ruins of America, particularly those of the Maya civilization on the northern Yucatán Peninsula.
Augustus Le Plongeon (1826–1908) and Alice Dixon Le Plongeon (1851–1910) were the first people to systematically excavate and photograph the Maya sites of Chichén Itzá and Uxmal. Alice was an English photographer and Augustus was a French medical doctor, photographer, antiquarian, and amateur archaeologist.

El fotógrafo franco-americano Augustus Le Plongeon (1826-1908) viajó al Museo Británico para estudiar de manera más profunda las fuentes mesoamericanas; ahí conoció a su esposa, Alice Dixon, quien se convertiría en el brazo derecho en sus exploraciones.
Augustus Le Plongeon, a nineteenth century Mayanist, was born on the Island of Jersey on May 4, 1826, and attended the Ecole Polytechnique in Paris. In his twenties he became intrigued by life in the Americas and traveled to Chile where he taught mathematics, drawing, and languages at a college in Valparaiso.
