He is a 1984 graduate of the California Institute of the Arts . Career. Walt Disney Feature Animation. Sanders created the Lilo & Stitch character Stitch, and voiced the character. Sanders began his career as a character designer for Jim Henson's Muppet Babies. He soon became the head storyboard artist for Walt Disney Feature Animation.

He helped write the 1998 Disney animated hit Mulan (1998), which moved him into the position to write, direct, and voice Lilo & Stitch (2002). Sanders moved to Dreamworks where he co-wrote, co-directed and did character design for How to Train Your Dragon (2010) .
