Colin Farrell is the second actor to play The Penguin in live action to be seen smoking tobacco after Burgess Meredith in Batman (1966) and Batman: The Movie (1966). Although promotional material for Danny DeVito 's portrayal in Batman Returns (1992) had him smoking, in the actual film he did no such thing and even rejected the habit.
