John Craig Venter ( Salt Lake City, Utah, Estados Unidos; 14 de octubre de 1946) es un biólogo y empresario estadounidense. Fue el presidente fundador de Celera Genomics, haciéndose famoso al arrancar su propio Proyecto Genoma Humano en 1999, al margen del consorcio público, con propósitos comerciales y utilizando la técnica " shotgun sequencing ".
John Craig Venter (born October 14, 1946) is an American biotechnologist and businessman. He is known for leading one of the first draft sequences of the human genome and assembled the first team to transfect a cell with a synthetic chromosome.
Dr. Venter is founder, chairman, and CEO of the J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI), a not-for-profit, research organization with approximately 120 scientists and staff dedicated to human, microbial, synthetic, and environmental genomic research, and the exploration of social and ethical issues in genomics.
