El artículo en el que presentó sus resultados en 1963 constituye uno de los grandes logros de las ciencias físicas del siglo XX, aunque pocos científicos que no fueran meteorólogos repararon entonces en él.

After receiving degrees from Dartmouth College and Harvard University in mathematics, Lorenz turned to weather forecasting in 1942 with the U.S. Army.

Ed Lorenz, a founder of chaos theory, also developed revolutionary ideas about the energetics of stratified, rotating fluids and made important contributions to the understanding of atmospheric dynamics and weather prediction. He was on the faculty of MIT from 1955 to his retirement in 1988.
