Euphonia is by far the largest and most significant artworks in the collection of Public Art of the University of Houston System and one of the largest Frank Stella artworks in the world. This three-part painting took a team of local artists months to complete and spans over 5000 square feet.
Frank Stella’s studio apparently had no problem finding takers in Houston. More than two dozen up-and-comers would climb scaffolds for seven months in an East End warehouse to realize his “Euphonia” murals for the University of Houston’s Moores Opera House.

He was an iconoclast from beginning to end: first, overthrowing the high-toned aesthetics of the Abstract Expressionist generation, and then, after having achieved early stardom, deftly and repeatedly breaking the very rules that he set for himself.
