The Blue Lagoon is a 1949 British coming-of-age romance and adventure film directed and co-produced by Frank Launder (with Sidney Gilliat) and starring Jean Simmons and Donald Houston. The screenplay was adapted by John Baines, Michael Hogan, and Frank Launder from the 1908 novel The Blue Lagoon by Henry De Vere Stacpoole.
Two young children (Susan Stranks and Peter Rudolph Jones) are shipwrecked on a deserted island, and must survive on their own. As they grow older, Emma (Jean Simmons) and Michael (Donald Houston) find themselves falling in love while waiting to be rescued.

Attractive hokum about children growing up alone after a shipwreck. It's a testament to change in social mores from 1949 to today that the child version of the girl (Susan Stranks) wanders around the island shirtless while her adult self (Jean Simmons) whittles bikinis out of bark and is practically nailed into them.
