Stanley Tucci played David Ruskin in Mr. Monk and the Actor. Tucci was one of three finalists for the role of Adrian Monk (along with Tony Shalhoub and Alfred Molina), hence why he was cast as an actor preparing to play Monk in a TV movie.
As method actor David Ruskin (Stanley Tucci)—set to play Monk in the film—is there to observe his mannerisms, Monk tries to impress him. The next day, Ruskin follows Monk again as he investigates a case at a pawnshop in which its owner was shot during a robbery.

Stanley Tucci was one of the three final choices to play Adrian Monk, along with Tony Shalhoub and Alfred Molina. Molina later appeared in the Season Six episode " Mr. Monk and the Naked Man ." Tucci and Shalhoub also played brothers in the film Big Night .
