Simonetta Stefanelli ( Italian pronunciation: [simoˈnetta stefaˈnɛlli]; born 30 November 1954) is an Italian former actress. Internationally, she is best known for her performance as Apollonia Vitelli-Corleone in the 1972 film The Godfather, directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
Apollonia Vitelli was 16 and Michael Corleone's first wife. Apollonia Vitelli was born in the hills around Corleone, Sicily. Apollonia was the only daughter of a Greek mother and a Sicilian father, who were incredibly protective of her and never wanted her heritage to be confused.
