Unlike the time-jump actor changes in House of the Dragon, there were no in-universe reasons for the Daario Naharis recast when Game of Thrones season 4 aired in 2014.

In 2013, Skrein appeared in the critically-acclaimed and BAFTA and Critics Choice Television Award winning HBO series, Game of Thrones. Skrein portrayed the character Daario Naharis, originally a lieutenant in the "Second Sons," who takes over the company after killing his superiors and aligns with Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).

Skrein portrayed Daario Naharis in the third season of the television series Game of Thrones. However, in the fourth season of the series, he was replaced by Dutch actor Michiel Huisman. Skrein states that it was not his choice to leave the show. In 2014, Skrein was cast in The Transporter: Refueled, replacing Jason Statham as the lead.

Fantasy. Game of Thrones. Edward George "Ed" Skrein (born 29 March 1983) is a British actor and musician from London, United Kingdom. In his music career he has worked with Asian Dub Foundation and Plan B. He has recently transitioned into acting, appearing in Plan B's movie Ill Manors.
In the show. Ed Skrein as Daario Naharis in season 3. The television series develops the backstory that Daario's alcoholic mother sold him to the fighting pits when he was a young boy. Daario was trained as a pit fighter and performed so well that he was released from slavery when his master died.
