James Francis Dorsey (February 29, 1904 – June 12, 1957) was an American jazz clarinetist, saxophonist, composer and big band leader. He recorded and composed the jazz and pop standards " I'm Glad There Is You (In This World of Ordinary People)" and "It's The Dreamer In Me".
Biografía. Su nombre completo era James Francis Dorsey, siendo también conocido como "JD", y nació en Shenandoah, Pensilvania. Era hijo de un profesor de música y hermano mayor de Tommy Dorsey, que también fue un destacado músico. De joven tocaba la trompeta y ya actuaba en el vodevil en 1913.

Jimmy Dorsey (born Feb. 29, 1904, Shenandoah, Pa., U.S.—died June 12, 1957, New York, N.Y.) was an American musician who—both independently and with his brother Tommy —led one of the most popular big bands of the swing era. He was also a highly talented saxophone and clarinet player.

Birth name. James Francis Dorsey. Mini Bio. Legendary saxophonist, conductor, songwriter and composer ("I'm Glad There Is You" and "Contrasts" [his theme]), educated in public schools and a cornet student of his father. Through the 1920s he was a saxophonist in orchestras including those of Paul Whiteman, Red Nichols, and the California Ramblers.

And while Jimmy Dorsey was born with an innate gift for music, he was also never shy in front of the motion picture camera.
Jimmy Dorsey. The younger of the two Dorsey siblings was a child prodigy. He began his musical career as a musician at age seven, playing the cornet and slide trumpet with his father’s brass group at local parties. His father was a working-class man who wanted better lives for his children. He made sure that they studied music.
