Sydney Grammar School (SGS, known colloquially as Grammar) is an independent, fee-paying, non-denominational day school for boys, located in Sydney, Australia. Incorporated in 1854 by Act of Parliament [5] and opened in 1857, the school claims to offer a "classical" or "grammar" school education thought of as liberal, humane, pre-vocational pedagogy.
Each day boys travel to Grammar from all over Sydney—as they have done since the 1850s. Travelling to the city each day teaches boys independence and confidence and exposes them to life beyond their local suburb.
Sydney Grammar School offers up to 25 full Academic scholarships, as well as Music Scholarships. In addition, we offer fee-assisted places to boys whose parents would otherwise be unable to afford the fees. If you think your son is suited to our school and would thrive here, but you are worried about the fees, we want to meet him.
Applications for Form I (Year 7) 2025 have closed. All years of entry beyond 2026 are open for enrolment. An Application Form is available online.
