Puducherry (en tamil: புதுச்சேரி, en hindi: पॉंडिचेरी, o Pondicherry) es un territorio de la India. El nombre Puducherry significa «Ciudad Nueva» en idioma tamil. El territorio formaba parte del Imperio colonial francés. Durante la época francesa la denominación oficial era Pondichéry.
The city is in the Puducherry district on the southeast coast of India and is surrounded by the Bay of Bengal to the east and the state of Tamil Nadu, with which it shares most of its culture, heritage, and language.
The Union Territory of Puducherry lies in the southern part of the Indian Peninsula. The areas of Puducherry district and Karaikal district are bound by the state of Tamil Nadu, while Yanam district and Mahé district are enclosed by the states of Andhra Pradesh and Kerala, respectively.
