Brasenose College (BNC) is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. It began as Brasenose Hall in the 13th century, before being founded as a college in 1509.

Brasenose was an early leader in Oxford sport and in the nineteenth century it acquired a great sporting reputation, rowing head of the river for many years and at one stage providing no fewer than eight members of the University cricket team. In the 1850s came the first of the Parliamentary reforms of the University.
About the college. Situated in Radcliffe Square, Brasenose is a friendly college at the heart of the University and city. We are able to accommodate undergraduates in single rooms for all years of study at our main site or nearby Frewin complex.
'The oddest name in Oxford' The name of the College has always fascinated visitors to Oxford. There have been several interpretations of it, including the suggestion that it is derived from ‘brasen huis' (brew house). The most likely explanation is that it refers to a ‘brazen' (brass or bronze) door knocker in the shape of a nose.
