The Trails run from Bridgeport to Newtown, utilizing grants from the State to develop the trails as part of a national program to utilize historic railroad beds as walkways and bicycle paths.

The state pieced together the regional trail, one of the first in New England, from urban Bridgeport to rural Monroe in 2001.
