Hace 3 días · Charles I, king of Great Britain and Ireland (1625–49), whose authoritarian rule and quarrels with Parliament provoked a civil war that led to his execution. He carried on the belief in royal absolutism that was advocated by his father, James I, who began the antagonistic relationship with Parliament during his reign.
Hace 2 días · Charles was born in Scotland in 1600, the second son of King James VI of Scotland (who later also became James I of England). He became heir to the throne at age 12 upon the death of his popular elder brother Henry from typhoid fever. Unlike the outgoing and athletic Henry, Charles was a sickly, reserved child who developed a stammer.
