Israel limita al oeste con el mar Mediterráneo y al sur con el mar Rojo. Al suroeste se encuentra la Península del Sinaí, mientras que al este Jordania se encuentra más allá del río Jordan, del mar Muerto y del valle de la Aravá. En el límite norte se encuentra la Cordillera del Antilíbano.
Israel limita con Líbano al norte, Siria al noreste, Jordania al este, Egipto al suroeste; los territorios palestinos (Cisjordania y la Franja de Gaza) en el este y el oeste. Israel está situado en las costas del sureste del Mar Mediterráneo y las costas del norte del Mar Rojo.
